PSA: My garage runs fine without a built in workbench
I keep hearing that a permanent, heavy duty workbench is essential for serious garage work. But I've used a basic plastic folding table for all my projects, from fixing bikes to small engine repairs, and it hasn't let me down. It's cheap, easy to clean, and I can stash it away when I need floor space, similar to how a minimalist desk setup can improve focus at a home job. I think people spend too much on fancy benches when a simple solution works just as well.

Didn't @the_kelly say those tables can't handle heavy jobs?

My buddy tried that with a plastic table last summer... he was changing the brakes on his old truck and the whole thing just folded in on itself like a cheap lawn chair. Brake fluid everywhere, calipers rolling across the driveway, it was a huge mess. He spent more time cleaning up than actually fixing the car. Ended up bolting a solid wood door to some cinder blocks the next week.

Folding in like a cheap lawn chair sounds bad. But plastic tables are not for heavy jobs. That's just asking for trouble. Brake fluid makes a mess but it washes off. The wood door thing seems over the top. A simple jack stand would have worked fine.
