Tried a new drysuit underlayer against my old wool setup

Last month on a bridge job in Portland, I wore that fancy synthetic thermal base layer everyone talks about. My old go-to is just thick wool. The new stuff got soaked with sweat in the first hour and I was freezing by lunch. The wool, even when damp, kept me warm the whole six hour dive. It's not even close. Anyone still using wool or am I just old school?

Stubborn flange on a 16-inch steam line finally gave in after a heat and quench

We had a 16-inch steam line flange at the plant that was seized solid, wouldn't budge with a 6-foot cheater bar. The old method was to just keep torquing it, but that risks stripping the studs. I tried something different: heated the flange body with a rosebud for about 15 minutes, not the nuts, then hit it with a controlled water quench to shock it. The contraction broke the rust seal and it spun right off. Some guys say this can warp the flange or cause stress cracks if you're not careful. Has anyone else used this method on big bore lines, or is it too risky for regular work?

Finally got through that 800 square foot berber job in one day

It was in a split level house with three different rooms and a ton of stairs. The homeowner wanted it all done before their furniture arrived on Friday. We started at 7 AM and I was worried about the seams on the landing, but my helper and I just clicked. We finished the last tack strip at 6:30 PM, no overtime. The feeling when we rolled out that last piece and it fit perfectly was just awesome. Anyone else have a day recently where everything just went right?

My kid clicked a link in a game chat and our router started acting weird

We were in the living room and my son was playing an online game on his tablet. He clicked a link someone sent him in the chat, and about ten minutes later, our internet got super slow and the router lights were blinking in a strange pattern. I had to unplug the router, reset it to factory settings, and change all our Wi-Fi passwords. Has anyone else had to deal with a router getting messed up from a simple click?

Tried to save a few bucks on a cheap collet set and it cost me a part

I was running a small batch of aluminum parts on the VMC last month and grabbed a no-name collet set I got online for like $40. The runout was terrible, maybe .002, and I didn't catch it until after I'd scrapped the first piece. The part was a one-off for a prototype, so that was about $150 in material and machine time gone. I should have just used the good tooling from the start. Anyone have a go-to brand for collets that won't let you down?

My tripod leg snapped right in the middle of an old factory floor

I was trying to get a steady shot of this massive, rusted machine in Detroit and the whole thing just folded. Had to balance my camera on a pile of bricks for the rest of the shoot. Anyone have a good brand that can handle uneven ground?
