Rubber squeegee vs. squeegee sponge on wet negs, and I think one is wrecking your film
I used to pull my negs out of the rinse and hit them with a plain rubber squeegee, and I lost 3 rolls worth of shots to scratches across the middle before I figured out what was doing it. Switched to a soft sponge squeegee soaked in Photo-Flo and the marks stopped right away, but now I see people on here saying they just use two fingers and skip the tool completely. The rubber guys say it gets the water off faster and cuts drying time, but my scratches only showed up after like 20 seconds of dragging it down the strip. The sponge crowd swears it never touches the emulsion hard enough to scar, though I have had one soak up grit and leave a faint line once. What are you running, and has anyone actually tested both on the same roll to see which one wins?
