Unpopular opinion: My kids' gadget reviews taught me something

I only cared about specs before. My kids show me how fun gadgets can be. So now I talk about that in my reviews.

I started reviewing tablets the same way until my eight year old showed me the drawing app she loves. Now I always test the stylus feel and kid friendly software first. Your reviews will connect better if you split them into two parts: what the specs sheet says, and what actual playtime feels like. I found readers really like when I note which features made my kids laugh or get creative. That practical joy tells people more than processor speeds ever could.

Actually that "practical joy" thing is so true. I keep a timer on now to see how long a kid stays engaged before getting bored, tells you way more than battery specs.

Wish I'd thought of the timer trick before buying my nephew that "educational" tablet. He figured out how to factory reset it in under ten minutes, which was honestly more impressive than any app. Guess the real spec was his boredom threshold.
