Rant: Why does everyone always guess 'soup' when they see a bunch of random veggies?
I posted a pic of some celery, a half onion, and a weird jar of kimchi juice in my fridge last Tuesday. Three people instantly said 'you're making soup'. I was trying to make a quick kimchi fried rice topping, not soup. It happens every single time I post anything with vegetables. I think people just default to the easiest guess. Has anyone else noticed this pattern, or is it just my weird fridge contents?

Ever read that thing about how people guess based on what they know? I saw a food writer say it's a mental shortcut. If someone's own cooking mostly uses veggies for soup, that's the first place their brain goes. They're not trying to be lazy, they're just stuck in their own kitchen habits.

Sounds about right. My buddy only knows how to grill, so every cooking problem ends with "throw it on the barbecue." I asked him about fixing a sauce once and he stared at me like I had three heads. People get a hammer and suddenly every problem looks like a nail.
