Showerthought: My furnace hit 3000 pours and the wear pattern shocked me

I was logging maintenance on our main induction furnace and the counter hit exactly 3000 cycles. The refractory lining had worn thin in one specific spot near the tap hole, not evenly like I expected. Has anyone else seen this kind of localized wear after a big round number of heats?

Yeah that wear pattern near the tap hole makes total sense. All the heat and metal flow is focused right there.

Our 2500-cycle crucible wore down the same way, just off-center from the pour spout.
