Just switched to a different riser sleeve for our gray iron castings

I always used the standard 2-inch fiber sleeves for our 200-pound pours. Last month our supplier was out, so I tried some 1.5-inch ceramic ones as a backup. I figured we'd get more shrinkage defects, but the scrap rate actually dropped by about 5%. The ceramic must feed the metal better even though it's smaller. Has anyone else had a similar surprise with different feeding systems?

Our foundry manager swears by ceramic sleeves now.

Hear that a lot from managers like @nancys90's, people get stuck on one fix that works for them once.

Tried ceramic once, warped the whole mold.
