Debate with my dad about curb furniture

He thinks leaving old couches out is trashy but I told him that's how I got my $600 solid oak coffee table last spring in Austin. He still didn't buy it but now he checks the alley before bulk pickup days. Anyone else have family who just doesn't get the curb score thing?

Caught my buddy Sam pulling a near-mint leather recliner out of a pile last fall. His wife was mortified, kept saying people would think they were broke. He cleaned it up with some leather conditioner and it's now worth about 400 bucks. She still won't tell her friends where it came from.

My brother-in-law once grabbed a patio set from someone's trash. Top of the line stuff, solid teak. His wife made him keep it in the garage for six months before she'd let it on the deck. Now it's their favorite hangout spot, worth a small fortune.
