A guy in my shop asked for a 'funeral arrangement that felt like a hug'

He came in last month after his sister passed, said she always wore bright yellow. I made a piece with sunflowers and soft greens, no dark colors. He cried when he saw it, said it was exactly right. How do you all handle those really personal requests when someone is grieving?

Man, that's heavy. I'd probably panic and just glue a bunch of teddy bears to a wreath. Seriously though, you nailed it. Getting it that right for someone in that much pain is a real skill. How do you even start to figure out what "feels like a hug" looks like?

My buddy who runs a flower shop upstate had a client ask for something similar, a "goodbye that felt like a walk in the woods." The guy's wife loved hiking. My friend went out and collected moss, pine cones, and ferns, made it look like a little forest floor. Said the widower just held it in his lap for like ten minutes, totally quiet. It's about finding that one specific memory and building the whole thing around it, you know?
