I drafted a skirt pattern on paper first, then jumped straight to digital for the next one.
The paper version took me almost 4 hours to get right, but I could feel the fabric drape in my head. On the computer, I finished in under an hour but the final mock-up felt stiff and wrong. Is the hands-on step just better for certain designs?

The mock-up fabric was probably too stiff.

Angela_coleman has a point about the fabric choice. But is it just the mock-up material, or does the digital draft itself lose something? When you draw a curve by hand, you make tiny adjustments for how the fabric will fall over a hip. Does the software just make a perfect geometric line that doesn't translate to real cloth? Maybe the four hours of thinking with a pencil forces you to solve those drape problems early.
