That day I compared rope grips from Otis vs Schindler on a job in Denver
I was swapping out a governor rope on a 20 year old lift downtown and grabbed a Schindler grip out of habit. Halfway through the tensioning it slipped and I about had a heart attack. Swapped to the Otis grip and it held solid with half the effort, no creep at all. Has anyone else noticed a big difference between OEM grips on different brands?

Yeah man, Schindler grips have gotten super inconsistent lately, seems like they changed their rubber compound or something and now they just don't bite the same way Otis does. Crazy how much a tiny difference in material can make your heart drop like that lol.

Same thing happened with the elevator doors in my building last year. They switched to some new plastic guide shoes, and suddenly the doors started shuddering every time they closed. Maintenance guy said they went with a cheaper supplier, whole thing had to be ripped out. You ever notice how the little stuff like rubber compound or guide material can mess with the whole feel? Its wild, like a different machine entirely.
