I see too many folks trying to save money by tinkering with their residential lifts, but without proper training, it's just asking for trouble.

Saw a neighbor get trapped for hours after a botched repair. Just call a pro, the risk isn't worth it.

Oh man, that sounds awful! I once tried to fix my own garage door and ended up locking myself in the garage for half a day. Had to call my wife to let me out, and she still brings it up every time I mention DIY. It's so true that the risk isn't worth it. Pros have the tools and know-how we just don't. Now I stick to changing light bulbs and even that makes me nervous!
