PSA: An inspector in Tacoma told me my corner bead was 'overkill' for a residential job.
He said the heavy gauge stuff is for commercial, and the lighter stuff is fine for houses. Changed my whole material order, but some guys think it's still worth the extra cost for the durability.

That's a perfect example of something I see all the time now. It feels like the baseline for quality in everything, from tools to furniture, keeps getting lowered. We're told "good enough" is fine, but then you watch it fail in a few years. Using the right material from the start isn't overkill, it's just doing the job once. That inspector's advice saves a few bucks now but costs more later.

It's that same race to the bottom everywhere. Valwest is right about the cracks, and it's just like appliances that die right after the warranty.
