My neighbor in apartment 4B warned me about the paint stripper fumes

He told me, 'Open every window and get a fan, that stuff is no joke.' I figured my bathroom vent would be enough for a small door frame. I started stripping the old paint in my living room and within ten minutes my eyes were watering. I had to leave the apartment for like two hours while it aired out. Has anyone else had a project totally halted by fumes you didn't expect?

Yeah, paint stripper is no joke. My uncle tried to refinish an old dresser in his garage last summer with the door closed. He ended up feeling so dizzy he had to go lie down in the yard for an hour. That chemical smell just hangs in the air and gets into your lungs. Makes you wonder what we used to breathe in all the time before safety warnings.

I mean, it's just paint stripper, right? How bad can it really be if you're just doing a door frame? Maybe you got a weirdly strong brand or something.
