My first tile job in my old apartment looked like a drunk person did it

Back in 2012, I tried to retile my bathroom floor in my place in Columbus with zero prep, just slapped adhesive on the old linoleum. The grout lines were all over the place, some tiles were a full quarter inch higher than others. Now I know you have to spend a whole day just getting the subfloor flat and using spacers. Anyone else have a first project that makes you cringe now?

Zero prep" is the real killer lol. My first attempt at drywall was basically the same story, just slapping mud over everything without taping the seams. The cracks showed up in like a month. You really do have to do the boring stuff first.

The cracks showed up in a month" sounds a bit dramatic. I've seen plenty of patch jobs hold up just fine without all the fuss. Maybe it depends on the house settling or the climate.
