CPU fan clip snapped mid-build last night

I was putting together a new rig for a buddy around 9pm and one of the retention clips on his Noctua cooler just cracked clean off when I pushed down. No warning, no weird angle, just a loud snap and there I was holding a plastic chunk. I ended up zip-tying the fan to the heatsink as a temp fix since the store closes at 8. The fan sits level and temps are fine so far but I'm not sure if I should trust it long term. Anyone else had a plastic clip fail on them and did you just replace the whole cooler or go with a different brand?

That exact snap happened to me a few years ago on a Noctua NH-D15 while building a system for a friend's gaming rig. I actually had to zip-tie one fan on for about six months because I was too stubborn to replace the whole cooler right away. Honestly, the zip-tie worked perfectly fine and the temps never changed a single degree, so I just left it like that until I swapped the whole build a year later. It's definitely not the prettiest fix but if the fan sits flush and doesn't rattle, you're probably good to go for a long while.

lol the zip-tie fix is basically the PC builder's version of duct tape on a car bumper. I've seen guys do that with their Noctuas and honestly it's more stable than half the stock clips on cheaper coolers. My buddy had his zip-tied for two years straight and the only thing that changed was his pride. If it ain't broke and it's not rattling like a maraca during a gaming session, you're golden. Kind of makes you wonder why Noctua doesn't just sell a bag of zip-ties as a "universal mounting kit" really.
