Pro tip: I just read that 70% of hair color damage happens during the first 10 minutes of processing.
Found that in a study from a big beauty school's trade journal. Anyone else adjust their timing based on this?

Interesting take, but the chemicals are already active the second you mix them. The damage clock starts then, not from how you spread it around. Gentle application helps, but the real culprit is the processing time itself.

Wondered if the damage is from the dye itself or from how we put it on. That first ten minutes is when you're really working it into the roots and massaging it through. Maybe the physical rubbing does as much harm as the chemicals sitting there. Started applying color more gently at the start and leaving it alone to process. My hair does feel less fried now.
