TIL I was loading my machine wrong for 2 years
Been running a Haas VF-2 for a while. Last Tuesday the tool changer jammed. Had to call in the old timer to help. He watched me for 30 seconds then said 'you've been seating your tools crooked this whole time.' Felt like an idiot. Anybody else learn a basic thing way later than they should have?

@the_mason bet your parts looked fine since the machine's spindle just flexed a hair to compensate.

Wait, were you actually crashing tools into the workpiece because they were sitting crooked, or was the machine compensating somehow? That sounds like it could have been causing some real accuracy problems without you noticing anything weird. How long until your parts started looking off or did you just get lucky?
