Rant: I used to think a 40-degree bag was fine for summer in the Rockies, but a ranger in Estes Park said that's why they pull so many hypothermic hikers off the trail in July.

After a miserable, shivering night at 10,500 feet where the temp dropped to 38, I finally bought a proper 20-degree bag and slept like a rock... what's the biggest temp rating mistake you've made?

My "summer" bag mistake cost me a whole night's sleep.

Wasn't there an article about how bag ratings are for survival, not comfort? I mean, that totally explains getting wrecked by a 40-degree bag when it's actually 40 out.
