My buddy in Bend roasted my 'emergency' tarp setup after a surprise downpour soaked my gear.

He pointed out that my cheap 5x7 poly tarp, which I'd had for years, was way too small for proper coverage and its grommets were tearing, so I finally upgraded to a proper 8x10 silnylon one with reinforced tie-outs after that trip.

Remember when we used duct tape to fix those old tarps?

Duct tape was a classic fix for sure. That silnylon upgrade is a game changer though, way lighter and packs down tiny.

Just make sure you seal the edges right with seam grip. The silnylon itself is tough, but those stitches can still leak if you don't. A little extra time on prep saves a huge headache later.
