I finally tried that 'ultralight' tarp set up everyone raves about in the Sierras
Used a 9x7 Dyneema flat tarp from a popular brand on a three day trip near Bishop, California. Got caught in a surprise hailstorm and the setup was so minimal I ended up soaked and had to bail to my car. Who actually sleeps well under something with zero bug protection and walls that flap all night? Is there a real-world use for these things outside of perfect weather?
