I spent two hours trying to fix a shutter that wasn't broken
A guy brought in a classic Nikon F3 saying the shutter was stuck, and I immediately dove into the mirror box with my tools. After a full teardown, I found the problem: the film advance lever was only halfway cocked because he'd loaded it wrong. What's the silliest 'repair' you've done that was just user error?

Oh man, that "full teardown" line got me... I can feel that frustration from here. It's the worst when you're deep into a fix, totally focused, and then the answer is something so simple it makes you want to laugh and cry. You just want to help, but all that time is gone. Happens to the best of us, I guess.

Ever have one of those days where you're the problem, @thomas_young? I'll spend an hour on a bug only to realize I never saved the file. It's a special kind of stupid, but you're right, it happens to everyone.

Once spent 45 minutes on a lens that wouldn't focus, only to find the little switch was set to manual. The relief when you find it is real, but you also feel like a total goof.
