Paid $60 for a 'travel hammock' that fell apart after two nights in Costa Rica
I bought this hammock from a website that claimed it was lightweight and durable. Second night at a beach hostel in Manuel Antonio, the stitching gave out while I was just sitting down. Fell right on the sand. No refund either since it was from some random online shop. Anyone else had luck with a decent travel hammock for under $50 that actually holds up?
$60 for a hammock is honestly way too cheap to expect anything that lasts. I've had a Grand Trunk double hammock for like 4 years now and it's been through beach trips and camping in the Smokies no problem. The stitching on those cheap ones is always gonna go first because they use thin thread and skip the reinforcing. If you're gonna use it on sand especially you need something with a higher denier nylon that can handle the grit.
Sand in places sand shouldn't be just adds character, right? @loganhart clearly knows his hammock stuff, but my advice is to buy a cheap hammock and a $2 bottle of super glue before you trust that thread again.
