PSA: My aunt swore by frozen veggies for meal prep and I fought her for months until my grocery bill hit $110 in a week
So my aunt Linda has been telling me for years that frozen vegetables are just as good as fresh for budget cooking. I kept buying fresh because I thought frozen was gross or something. Last month I finally added up my receipts and I was spending like $15 a week just on fresh broccoli and spinach that would go bad in 3 days. Switched to frozen bags for 2 weeks now and my weekly food costs dropped to around $85. But here is the thing - some frozen veggies like green beans get super mushy when you cook them. Is she right overall or does it depend on what you are making? Has anyone else had a relative give them cheap food advice that actually worked or backfired?

My coworker Jenna had this exact fight with her grandma about frozen peas. She finally caved after her fresh pea pods turned into a science experiment in the fridge. Now she swears by frozen for soups and stews because the texture doesn't matter as much. But she still buys fresh for salads and stuff where you want that crunch. So yeah, I think your aunt is onto something but you gotta pick your battles with which veggies.

Honestly the real trick nobody talks about is using frozen veggies in things where they're gonna get blended or mashed anyway. Like I dump frozen cauliflower straight into soups or smoothies and you literally cannot tell the difference. So yeah your aunt is right for some things but you gotta know when to keep it fresh.
