Question about that fancy fire blanket I bought for $80
I work at a refinery in Baton Rouge and last month I dropped $80 on a silica fire blanket thinking it would be great for welding sparks. First day I used it, I draped it over some piping while I was hot work overhead. Within 20 minutes the blanket had a small burn hole and I could smell it melting. Turns out those cheap ones are just fiberglass with a coating, not actual fire resistant fabric. My foreman laughed and said I should have just used the company's welding pads for free. Now I'm wondering if the $200 ones from the supply house are actually worth it or if I'm just chasing a marketing gimmick. Anyone else get burned by buying your own fire protection gear?

Spend another $120 on a fire blanket? You'd be better off using that money on beer.

Come on, a fire blanket could save your kitchen way faster than a beer run.
