My lead tech changed my whole view on wire splicing

Was working with Dave from the Orlando hangar last week, he's been at it 20 years. He watched me do a butt splice and said 'you're relying on the connector too much, the twist matters more'. He showed me his method and I swear it holds way better. Anybody else learn something basic they thought they had down pat?

Respectfully, I see it the other way - a good connector should do the work so the twist is just backup. The real trick is proper strip length and clean wire prep, not how many times you wrap them together.

Nah, I gotta DISAGREE with @lisa_jones21 on this one. A good twist is your main insurance against failure, especially when you're working in tight spots where connectors can wiggle loose. Clean prep matters too, but that extra wrap is cheap peace of mind.
