Ngl, my opinion on fixing old floppy drives totally flipped

I always figured messing with floppy drives on vintage PCs was a waste of time. Honestly, after getting my hands dirty and reviving one, I love the satisfaction. Tbh, what old tech did you change your mind about repairing?

Oh man, I read an article about how those old drives are actually pretty tough. @ellis.charles has a point though, that first time it works is a real rush, isn't it?

Totally get the flipped opinion part. I felt the same way about old cassette decks until I fixed one and heard it play. That click of the mechanism working is a different kind of satisfaction.

But that click is just masking a world of pain. Those old mechanisms are a time bomb of brittle plastic and perished rubber belts. You get it working once, then a week later the same deck eats a tape because a 40 year old idler wheel gave up. The romance dies fast when you're hunting for parts that don't exist anymore. Isn't it just glorifying stuff that was kind of a hassle even when it was new?
