PSA: A chat with a neighbor totally changed how I handle outdoor camera installs

I used to think asking neighbors for permission to point cameras their way was overkill and would slow me down. But last month, one guy got really upset because he thought I was spying on his backyard without telling him. After talking it out, I now always explain the camera angles and get a quick okay before I start. It saves me headaches and actually makes the job smoother because people trust me more.

Hold on, what about the client meetings? If you show them your angle sketches early, they can't say they wanted something else later. It becomes a SHARED plan so everyone agrees on what's important. That cuts down on complaints because they already signed off on the vision. Plus, it makes you look super prepared which builds trust. I've seen shoots go way smoother when the client feels included from the start. It's not just about covering your butt, it's about making them part of the process.

Honestly, wouldn't that just invite more complaints if they overthink the camera angles?

Ever try it yourself? I used to skip planning and got so many complaints about missed action... but once I started mapping angles first, those calls dropped way down.

Vera501, planning angles cut my reshoots by half last year. I sketch five key frames per scene now. It locks in the important actions so nothing gets missed. Clients stopped calling about botched coverage.

Nah, it's the opposite. People complain when the shot is bad and they miss something important. If you plan the angles ahead of time, you're covering the important stuff on purpose. That means you get the footage you actually need. Skipping the planning is how you end up with a camera pointed at a wall while the main event happens off screen. Then you get the real angry calls. Planning stops those headaches before they start.
