Percents are just a starting point, not a rule you have to follow. When rent eats 54% of your check, the split has to change based on what's actually left, not some formula that assumes cheap housing.

The "just pocket change" thing is funny because those bronze coins were probably handled by way more people than any gold piece in the building. Think about it: a gold aureus sat in some rich guy's chest or got buried in a hoard, but a bronze coin passed through bakers, soldiers, prostitutes, kids buying snacks. The wear patterns on them literally map out daily life, where they traveled, how long they stayed in use. The Met could put up a single sign saying "this coin bought bread for a family of four" and people would stand there for ten minutes. Instead the placard just lists the emperor and the date.

Watching people drop 70 bucks on a controller just to get hand cramps is my favorite kind of buyer's remorse. I did the same thing a couple years back, got one of those fancy pads with the paddles, used it for maybe two weeks, then went right back to my old one with the sticky A button.
