That museum volunteer's comment about the Roman coins got under my skin

Tbh, this older guy at the Met last Saturday told me the bronze coins in case 14 were 'just pocket change, nothing special,' and it made me realize how much context gets stripped away when we only display the fancy gold stuff, so has anyone else felt like visitors miss the real story because of how we curate the ordinary finds?
