I finally got my old Apple IIe to boot after cleaning the motherboard with a toothbrush and isopropyl alcohol.

The screen was just showing garbage characters for months, but after a careful scrub it came right up. I think years of dust were causing shorts on the board. Has anyone else fixed a similar problem with a different method?

My sauerkraut turned pink and fizzed over last weekend

I was making a big batch of sauerkraut, my usual mix of cabbage and caraway seeds in a ceramic crock. I checked it after about 5 days and the whole top layer had turned this weird pink color and was bubbling like crazy. It smelled a bit off, not sour but kind of yeasty. I panicked and looked it up, and apparently it's a sign of wild yeast taking over, maybe because my salt ratio was a little low this time. I had to scoop off the whole pink layer, about two inches deep, and hope the stuff underneath was still good. It was a real bummer because I was counting on that batch. Has anyone else had a kraut go pink, and did you save it or just toss the whole thing?

I finally got to see the old Otis controller we replaced in that downtown high rise.

Man, that's wild how one bad piece can mess up a whole system. It's like when my car's check engine light kept coming on for random stuff. The mechanic finally found one cracked sensor sending garbage data to the computer. Replaced that cheap part and the whole car just... calmed down. Makes you wonder what else is out there running on busted old parts.

DAE get annoyed when shops skip the weld-through primer on quarter panel patches?

Honestly, calling it a "basic step" is where I disagree. On a daily driver repair, that extra prep and spray adds real time and cost for a spot nobody will ever see again. If the front gets a good coat of epoxy and the seam sealer is done right, it's sealed from the elements anyway. Chasing every square inch of hidden metal for perfect corrosion proofing is overkill for most cars that'll get traded in before it matters.
