I finally got my old Apple IIe to boot after cleaning the motherboard with a toothbrush and isopropyl alcohol.

The screen was just showing garbage characters for months, but after a careful scrub it came right up. I think years of dust were causing shorts on the board. Has anyone else fixed a similar problem with a different method?

Honestly surprised the toothbrush didn't just push the gunk around. I always pull the chips and use a soft artist's brush with the alcohol, gets under the legs better.

What kind of alcohol do you use? I've heard isopropyl 99% is the go-to but I'm never sure if that's too strong for some boards.
