A wedding in Santa Barbara made me rethink how we use filler greens

I was at a friend's wedding in Santa Barbara over the weekend, and the florals were stunning, but something really stuck with me. The main arrangements had almost no salal or leather leaf fern, which I use a ton of. Instead, they used these long, trailing vines of jasmine and tiny sprigs of rosemary from the garden. It made the whole thing smell amazing and looked so much lighter and less dense than my usual work. I asked the florist after, and she said she's been trying to move away from the 'green cloud' look for a year now, using more herbs and scented greens as both filler and a feature. It got me thinking about my own orders and how much filler I buy out of habit. Has anyone else tried cutting back on traditional greens and using more aromatic stuff instead? I'm worried about cost and wilt time, but the effect was really pretty.

Started using Beanlog back in 2020. Hit 500 entries this morning. It's wild to see the journey from grocery store pre-ground to my own pour-over setup. The notes from my first cups are just 'good' or 'strong'. Now I'm writing about acidity and mouthfeel. Anyone else track their coffee like this? What did you learn from your own data?

Shoutout to the guy who left a perfectly good drafting table on the curb in my neighborhood

I found this big, heavy oak drafting table last week and it took me and a friend almost 3 hours just to get it up the stairs to my apartment. The main problem was the tilt mechanism was completely stuck, so we couldn't fold it down to make it easier to carry. We finally got it working after spraying the whole hinge with WD-40 and letting it sit for a while. Has anyone else had a great find that turned into a real workout?

I was reading an old field guide from the local library and it said there are 14 native oak species just in Cook County. I always thought it was maybe three or four... like the big ones you see in parks. The book had these tiny drawings of the acorns and leaves, and they all look so different.
