Bread bags from lunch kept my socks dry during a downpour
Was hiking the Pine Creek path this morning when a storm rolled in fast. My trail runners got soaked, and water started coming in over the tops. I had my sandwich bags still in my pack from breakfast. On a whim, I pulled them out and wrapped each sock before putting my shoes back on. It felt weird, but my feet stayed dry for the next three miles of muddy trail. I didn't get any blisters or have to turn back early. Now I toss a couple of plastic bags in my kit every time I head out. This cheap fix let me finish the hike in comfort.
