Used to think trail mix was pointless until a long hike proved me wrong.

I always brought just water and granola. Having nuts and fruit kept my energy UP the whole way.

Had the same wake-up call last summer. Nothing beats that mix when you're miles in.

Totally get what @the_val means. Forgot my mix once and hit a wall halfway up the trail.

I always packed just granola bars and water for day hikes. After a tough climb, a friend shared her trail mix with me. The nuts and fruit gave me a quick boost that lasted hours. Now I make my own mix with peanuts, raisins, and a few chocolate chips. It keeps me going on all my outdoor trips.
