It clicked for me how outsiders see our trade when my neighbor called my loader 'that tractor thing'.

My cousin once pointed at my skid steer and called it a forklift. Tbh, it shows how little people know about construction tools. They just see big machines and lump them all together. Makes you realize how specialized our work looks from the outside.

I see it differently... your cousin probably just saw a machine moving stuff. Most people don't deal with skid steers or forklifts in their daily life. It's an honest mistake, not a lack of respect for the work.

Actually, I get where @riverp37 is coming from, but johnfoster has a point. Most folks just see a piece of equipment doing a job and guess. It really doesn't mean they look down on the skill it takes to run one.
