Vent: Cracked a custom pane because I rushed the cleanup

I was finishing a storefront window job and wiped the glass with a dirty rag to speed things up. The grit on the cloth left fine scratches all over the surface, and when the sun hit it, the client pointed them out right away. Had to eat the cost for a new pane and spend extra time polishing out the scratches on the old one. Lesson learned: never skip using clean, lint-free cloths, even when you're in a hurry.

Read a forum post once where a guy used an old towel on his car windshield. Same deal, tiny scratches from dirt in the towel only showed up in direct sunlight. He had to get the whole thing buffed out, cost him a lot of money. Makes you realize how fragile glass can be, even when it seems tough. Always figured clean cloths were just for show, but now I see they're a must.

But @dylan_green58 I've used rags for years with no scratches.

So you're just lucky then? Most rags have grit in them that you can't even see.
