Update: Made a decent glass vase on my third attempt

I've been taking a beginner glassblowing class at the community center. On my third try, I shaped a vase that actually holds water and stands upright. I kept the glass hot and moved it slowly on the pipe. It's not perfect, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

So you made a usable vase on try number three? That's almost unfair. I know folks who've been at it for weeks and still make what looks like modern art gone wrong. Keeping the glass hot and moving slow sounds easy, but it's way harder than it looks. Bet you felt like a pro when it didn't just melt into a blob. Now the real test is if it survives being washed without cracking. What color did you make it, or is it clear?

Feel your pain, my first dozen attempts looked like sad glass pancakes.

In my local studio, third-try successes happen more than you'd think. It's usually because the instructor is guiding every step. Tbh, it doesn't mean much until you can do it alone.
