My old tablet got a second life from a random YouTube video
I found a video about installing a custom OS on a 2017 Kindle Fire. The guy said it would turn it into a basic Android tablet. I followed the steps, which took about an hour, and it actually worked. Now it runs apps my kid can use for drawing. Has anyone else tried this with an old gadget they thought was junk?

Love seeing old tech get rescued like that. It feels way better than just recycling it. My old laptop is next on my list for a similar project.

Isn't it cool how fixing old stuff has become its own hobby now? @jordan653, I see it everywhere, from people fixing up old game consoles to giving new life to furniture. It makes you feel smart and you end up with something totally unique. That laptop project sounds awesome, way better than it just sitting in a drawer.
