My old digital camera finally gave out after 12 years, so I had to pick a new one

It was a Canon PowerShot from 2012, and the lens motor just died last Tuesday. I spent the whole week reading reviews and comparing specs, which was pretty tiring. I ended up getting a Sony ZV-1F because a lot of videos said it was good for simple video stuff. Setting it up felt weird after using the same camera for so long, but the picture quality is a huge step up. Has anyone else switched from a really old point-and-shoot to a newer model and felt a bit lost at first?

Twelve years with one camera is a long time... my muscle memory would be totally off. I spent a whole afternoon just figuring out where the playback button was on my new one, it felt so foreign. The menu systems now are like a different language compared to those old Canons.

Man I feel that, switching gear after that long is like learning to walk again. What finally clicked for me was just forcing myself to shoot a whole dumb project, like pictures of my coffee mug from every angle. By the end, the new buttons started to feel normal because I stopped overthinking it. Those old menus were simple, but now everything's buried under five layers of nonsense. You just gotta muscle through the awkward phase.
