My client's oak table showed a weird haze after I applied the topcoat.

Turns out I was wiping the stain off with the grain, but applying the polyurethane across it. A guy at the supply shop in Springfield pointed it out when I described my process. Anyone else run into this with oil-based finishes?

My maple dresser did the same thing. I switched to applying everything with the grain and a second coat cleared it right up.
