Hot take: I lost a $5k client because I answered a Slack message at 11pm

I was in bed in Austin, my phone buzzed with a 'quick question' from a big client, I gave a rushed answer that missed a key detail, and they pulled the whole website project the next morning, so has anyone else had a late-night reply totally backfire?

My brain shuts off after 9pm for this exact reason. Sent a totally wrong file to a client once because I tried to be helpful at midnight. Took me a week to fix that trust.

My old boss in Chicago had a hard rule about no client contact after 7pm. He said a wrong answer at night does more damage than a right one at 9am, and that $5k story proves it. I finally get why he was so strict about it.
