Found an old invoice from my first freelance year and the rate made me laugh

Was cleaning out a drawer and found a paper invoice from 2012. I charged $15 an hour for a full website build. Saw a report on Upwork last week that the average hourly rate for web design is now over $60. How did you guys figure out what to actually charge when you started?

Man, I read a blog post once that said to take your yearly salary goal and divide it by 1000 for your hourly rate. So if you wanted 60k, you'd charge 60 bucks an hour. It's a super simple starting point that at least makes you think about living costs, not just what others are charging.
