A new guy from the aluminum shop said our pour temps were 'aggressive' and it got me looking at our logs.

He pointed out that our standard 1350 degrees for a certain gray iron part was about 50 degrees hotter than his old place ran it, and after checking, we've had less scrap on the test casts we cooled down a bit. Anyone else tweaked their standard temps lately and seen a change?

Thought the same until our scrap rate dropped.

Listen to the new guy, he's probably onto something. We dropped our temps a few years back after a similar tip and saw way less warping. Sometimes the standard numbers just get baked in and nobody questions them.

Wait, he said your pour temps were 'aggressive'? That's wild, I would've brushed that off as just some new guy talking." "Our standard numbers are basically carved in stone here, but hearing that dropping 50 degrees actually cut scrap makes me wonder what else we're just blindly running hot on." "Kind of insane that a fresh set of eyes caught something like that when its probably been sitting there for years just costing us money.
