My neighbor told me to stop using floral foam for my wedding centerpieces

She said it was bad for the environment and the stems would rot faster. I tried her idea of using chicken wire and water tubes for a big wedding last month. The arrangements stayed fresh for the whole event and cleanup was way easier. Has anyone else made that switch and noticed a difference in how long the flowers last?

Honestly, I still use floral foam for big events. It holds stems exactly where you want them, which chicken wire just can't do for complex designs. I've had flowers wilt faster in tubes when the water gets warm in a crowded room. The foam keeps everything stable and hydrated without any fuss.

I get the convenience, @sandra715, but is a bit of extra stability worth using that much plastic foam. I've seen some pretty wild designs done without it.

But all that foam dust in the air... that can't be good to breathe in all day.
