Spent $80 on a glass fermentation weight that shattered in my jar

I was all proud of my fancy new weight for my kraut, dropped it in and it cracked clean in two within a week. Cost me an extra $20 in lost cabbage. Anyone else stick with cheap plastic weights and skip the fancy glass?

Ugh no that's so frustrating, I'd be choked too lol. I learned the hard way that glass and weird temperature shifts or bumps just don't mix in a ferment jar. I've been using cheap silicone weights for a while now and honestly haven't looked back, they don't break and they're way easier to clean.

Ngl silicone weights are such a game changer for ferments. I had a glass weight shatter on me once and it was a total nightmare cleaning up tiny shards from the brine. Been using silicone for a year now and zero regrets, they just grip the jar better too.
