Spent 3 hours on a quarter crack that looked simple
It was on a draft horse with a deep, old crack that kept crumbling when I tried to patch it. I had to clean it out way more than I thought and use a different glue mix. Anyone have a better way to handle those crumbling cracks?

Those old cracks are the worst. I had one last month on a Percheron that was nothing but dust inside. Ended up using a rotary tool with a tiny cone bit to get all the dead stuff out, much more than just a hoof pick. Switched to a two-part epoxy filler instead of my usual acrylic. Let it set up for a full day before I even thought about shaping it. The key was getting that bone-dry foundation clean.

That dusty Percheron story from @price.alice reminds me how often a deep clean fixes more than just horse hooves.

Wait, you used a rotary tool on a hoof?
