That master esthetician at the Dermalogica event who told me to stop double cleansing every night

I went to a Dermalogica workshop in Portland last month and the instructor, this 20 year veteran named Jenna, said most people with dry skin don't need double cleansing at night. I tried it for 2 weeks and my redness calmed down a ton. Anyone else get conflicting advice on cleansing routines that actually worked better when you stripped it back?

Would I look like less of a greasy mess if I just used one cleanser too? My skin is probably laughing at me for buying all that fancy double cleanse stuff.

My friend Sarah actually gave up double cleansing last month after her derm told her she was stripping her skin. She switched to just one gentle gel cleanser and honestly, her face looks way less irritated now. But I mean, if double cleansing works for you @taylor.jessica, then more power to you - maybe your skin just isn't into the whole "multiple steps" thing like mine isn't. Sometimes simpler really is better, especially when you're dealing with that greasy feeling afterwards.

@price.alice your friend Sarah's story gives me life honestly 😭 I did the same thing a few months back when my skin started getting all tight and angry after my night routine. Dropped the oil cleanser entirely and just use a gentle cream cleanser now. The greasy feeling your talking about that you get after double cleansing is exactly what was happening to me too, it felt like I was just moving oil around instead of actually cleaning anything. Sometimes less really is better, especially when your skin is screaming at you.
