Saw a whole article about those things being mostly cheap plastic with a fancy name.

Honestly used to think the word "professional" on the box meant it was built to last, like salon-grade stuff. Then my sister got one of those high-end hair dryers that rattled itself apart in two months. It really showed me that a fancy name and a big price tag don't mean anything if the company won't stand behind the product. Now I just assume anything that calls itself pro but has a short warranty is basically a scam.

Felix is right about the cheap plastic thing. I got burned on one of those last year. The trick is to check the warranty before you buy anything that plugs in. A lot of those "professional" brands only give you 90 days, which tells you everything. If they won't back it up for at least a year, they know it's junk. You might still be able to file a chargeback with your credit card company for a broken product.
