Used to just grab whatever mugs looked cool at estate sales, now I flip them over every single time since that one day in Tacoma where I found a 1960s Russel Wright set buried under some chipped diner cups

Turns out the bottoms tell you everything about whether it's worth $2 or $200, and now I spend half my sale time crouched down checking marks instead of just grabbing stuff I like, anyone else gotten burned by not checking the maker's stamp before buying?

Take this with a grain of salt, but that Tacoma story about a full Russel Wright set sounds a bit off to me. Russel Wright was mostly a designer for mass-produced dinnerware, not really known for full matching sets in the way you'd find at an estate sale. I'd double-check the markings next time to make sure you're not misreading a more common brand.

Wait, did that Tacoma post get deleted? My buddy John found a full set of dishes at a garage sale in Portland last year and swore up and down they were Russel Wright. He posted pictures and everything, showed the weird stamped mark on the bottom. Turns out it was some company called "Russell Crafts" or something like that. Total different thing, just a name that sounds close enough. He was so sure about it too until his wife looked it up on her phone right there.
